Watch Now

As a lifelong Prince George’s County resident, Paul is dedicated to giving back to a community that has provided a ladder of opportunity for him and his family.  He is leveraging his national executive experience and networks to give voice to all our neighbors and lead a responsive and transparent government that:

  • Prepares our students for college or careers and treats our teachers and support staff as professionals

  • Expands economic empowerment by addressing the barriers that keep entrepreneurs from starting or growing their businesses here;

  • Gives all of our residents a chance—even a second chance—to succeed through principles of restorative justice;

  • Carefully stewards your County resources.

ABOUT PAUL

First in his family to graduate from high school, Paul was inspired by his Prince George’s County Public School teachers to always believe the sky was the limit and graduated from High Point High School in 1998.  Paul went on to earn a B.A. in History from the University of Maryland and his law degree from Howard University. He is currently Chief of Staff to the President of Howard University.

Paul served on the 2008 Obama campaign as the national deputy director for religious outreach.  From 2009 to 2013 he served on the White House staff and played an important role in advancing key initiatives like “ObamaCare” that ultimately helped reduce the number of uninsured people in Prince George’s County by more than 50%.  He also helped launch the President's Responsible Fatherhood and Healthy Families initiative and ensured the White House Mentorship Program included youth from Prince George’s County.  This effort later folded into the “My Brother's Keeper” campaign.

President Obama appointed Paul as Director of AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America), the historic program devoted to eliminating poverty and managed a budget of more than $90 million. Paul later served at the U.S. Department of Justice as Acting Director of the Department's Community Relations Service. He led federal efforts across 15 regional offices to resolve local conflicts and strengthen relationships between local communities and law enforcement in places like Ferguson, MO, Baton Rouge, LA, and Baltimore, MD.

Having gained critical insights into best practices that strengthen neighborhoods, promote economic empowerment, and provide opportunities for individuals, families, and communities, Paul Monteiro is running for Prince George’s County Executive. He is running to lead a responsive and transparent County government that works for the people.
